Owens Men's and Women's Basketball Entertains Columbus State on Express T-Shirt Day, Jan. 29

Owens Community College men's and women's basketball programs will entertain archrival Columbus State Community College as part of doubleheader action during Express T-shirt Day on Saturday, January 29. The women's team will play at 1 p.m., while the Express men will battle Columbus State beginning at 3 p.m.

Both games will be played at the College's Student Health and Activities Center (SHAC) on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road, four miles from downtown Toledo. Admission to home games is free. In addition, the first 500 individuals in attendance on Saturday will receive an Owens Express/Coca-Cola T- shirt courtesy of Owens Community College and The Coca-Cola Company.

The Express women's basketball program has amassed a 13-8 overall record and currently is in third place in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) standings. Led by Head Coach Michael Llanas, their conference record is 4-2. In this week's NJCAA Division II poll, Owens Express women's basketball is ranked No. 25 in the nation.

In recent weeks, Owens has captured victories over Clark State Community College 84-42, Sinclair Community College 73-65 and Cuyahoga Community College 81- 40.

The 2004-05 edition of the men's basketball program has experienced similar success as the women's team. Owens has an overall record of 20-2 and a 6-0 mark (first place) in the OCCAC. They also are ranked No. 4 in the nation, according to this week's NJCAA Division II poll.

Guided by Head Coach Jim Welling, the Express recently has compiled wins over Cincinnati State Community College 72-69, Edison State Community College 82- 63, Sinclair Community College 72-63 and Cuyahoga Community College 78-66.

The next home men's and women's basketball games will occur on Saturday, February 5, as the Express entertain Clark State Community College. The women's team will play at 1 p.m., while the Express men will take on Clark State beginning at 3 p.m.
