ISO 9001 Program Offered at Owens Findlay-area Campus

FINDLAY - Owens Community College is responding to the demand for quality education within business and industry throughout the surrounding communities by offering an ISO 9001:2000 Program on the Findlay-area Campus. The creation of an ISO 9001:2000 Program will serve as the first-ever training course initiated as part of the College's new Quality Institute.

"Owens' Findlay-area Campus is proud to serve as a leader in providing innovative educational training opportunities for the Hancock County region," said Craig Burnside, Owens Director of Corporate and Community Education. "Meeting the ever-growing customer demand for the highest level of quality is vital to the future success of companies in any kind of business. The College's new Quality Institute is designed to assist organizations comply with their costumer's requirements for a documented ISO system and help to improve their operations and profitability."

The ISO 9001:2000 Program will accommodate up to eight companies within "user groups" and classes will occur on the Findlay-area Campus. Phase I of the program will feature 10 three-hour classroom training sessions. Topics to be discussed during the classroom training will include Introduction to ISO 9001:2000, Introduction to the Quality System, Documentation Requirements, and Management Responsibility, among others.

Companies will also participate in 40 hours of individualized consulting at their local business. A total of 10 two-to-three hour sessions will conclude the quality education training.

Serving as the College's ISO 9001:2000 Program Instructor is Richard Everhardt. A business development specialist, Everhardt has 30 years experience in small business, management and supervisory training, management development, and quality management training. He is a Marketing Education Hall of Fame inductee and the recipient of Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year award for his work with entrepreneurs. Everhardt has earned Lead Auditor Status for ISO 9001:2000 through AOQC Moody Inc.

The College's Quality Institute was created with the overall mission of serving the educational quality needs of individuals, companies and organizations through seminars, courses and technical assistance in ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001 and TS 16949 management systems.

According to Burnside, the establishing of such an Institute will assist in enhancing quality management in business and industry as they are faced with increasing quality requirements and price concessions from their customers.

"Companies simply must improve all business practices to compete and survive in the modern business climate," he said. "The need for the services of a Quality Institute are certainly to grow as more major suppliers require certification."
