Owens Express Women's Basketball Competes in NJCAA Region XII Tournament, March 3-6

The Owens Community College women's basketball team begins its postseason run toward a national title as the Express compete in the NJCAA Region XII (District H) Women's Basketball Championships this weekend. The tournament will be held at Delta College in University Center, Mich., Thursday-Sunday, March 3-6.

Coached by Michael Llanas, the Express will take an 18-11 overall record into the single elimination tournament, where they will battle St. Clair County Community College at 6 a.m. on Friday, March 4. If they would advance, Owens will play at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 5. The championship game will occur at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 6.

Other teams participating in the tournament include Delta College, Oakland Community College, Mott Community College, Schoolcraft College, Wayne County Community College, Kirtland Community College and Lakeland Community College.

Llanas' team finished the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) in third place with a 9-5 record. In this week's NJCAA Division II poll, Express women's basketball is ranked No. 25 in the nation. Owens advanced to last year's NJCAA Division II National Championships by capturing the regional (District H) title.

The NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championships will be held Wednesday-Saturday, March 16-19 in Phoenix.
