Owens Community College Foundation Initiates 2005 Annual Giving Campaign

The Owens Community College Foundation is investing in Northwest Ohio's educational future by engaging in an Annual Giving Campaign. Funds generated from the Annual Giving Campaign will be used immediately to meet the College's most important needs and opportunities, including student scholarships, academic departments, educational technology, student organizations, athletics, and the Center for Fine and Performing Arts. In 2004, the Foundation raised over $260,000 for scholarships and program support.

"Owens Community College is committed to providing students with the maximum amount of educational resources and choices," said Rasesh Shah, Owens Foundation Chairman. "A donation to the Annual Giving Campaign will not only positively impact the lives of current students, but also assist in preserving a high quality education for future generations. Our mission cannot be achieved without the support of friends, parents, and Owens alumni and employees stepping forward to help us meet our funding challenges."

Since 1965, Owens Community College has helped tens of thousands of Northwest Ohio residents reach their career and educational goals. With generous donations, the College has been able to maintain affordable tuition without sacrificing the quality of its offerings. The College's academic programs and educational services depend, in part, on private gifts from individuals who wish to contribute to the future of Northwest Ohio's surrounding communities.

According to Shah, individuals may designate gifts to a specific area or as unrestricted, allowing the College to utilize the donation wherever the need is the greatest.

Among the various levels of support are the Michael J. Owens Society, 1965 Founders' Class, President's Circle, Dean's List, Professor's Club, Honor Roll, and Red and White Association.

The mission of the Owens Foundation and its Board of Directors is cultivating gift initiatives, targeting successful alumni, business and industry members who are committed to investing and supporting the educational needs of current and future Owens Community College students. The Foundation's focus allows Owens to continue offering affordable tuition, ensuring the College's academic position as the best investment in Northwest Ohio. The Owens Community College Foundation awarded over $580,000 in scholarships and program support since its incorporation.

In addition to the Foundation, Owens Community College this past year provided more than $41.9 million in grants, scholarships, loans and federal work-study to support the educational needs of students. The College's Board of Trustees awarded more than $92,000 in scholarships to 92 students through its Academic Excellence Program.
