Owens Community College Hosts Lincoln Motorsports Welding Night, April 7

Area residents are invited to learn more about careers within the welding and automotive industry, and check out an array of competition race cars, as Owens Community College hosts the ninth annual Lincoln Motorsports Welding Night on Thursday, April 7.

Lincoln Motorsports Welding Night will occur from 6-9 p.m. in the College's Transportation Technologies Center on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road, four miles from downtown Toledo. Admission to the event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

" Lincoln Motorsports Welding Night is a great opportunity for area residents to meet individuals from local businesses, asking them questions concerning their professions and how to go about choosing a career within the welding or automotive industry," said Mark Durivage, Owens Dean for the School of Technology. " More than 25 car owners from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan are expected to be in attendance to offer advice and showcase their vehicles."

Among the vehicles featured in the College's Transportation Technologies Center will be two International Hot Rod Association drag cars. In addition, a 410 Sprint Car, a Super-Modified Four Wheel Drive (SMFWD) Pulling Truck, a 1971 Chevelle Drag Car, a 1973 Vega Drag Car and two modified mini tractors will be on display.

Phil Barr, the crew chief/owner of Barr-Serra Racing, will serve as the guest speaker for this year's event. A two-time World Snowmobile Drag Racing Champion, Barr along with his partner Todd Serra work together to perform their own chassis fabrication, engine building and tuning for the racing company. Barr will speak at 7 p.m. Additionally, other welding demonstrations will occur throughout the evening.

More than 350 people attended last year's Lincoln Motorsports Welding Night, which is co-sponsored by the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the American Welding Society and Lincoln Electric Motorsports. For additional information, call (567) 661-7729 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 7729.
