Owens Community College Hosts Six Express Basketball Camps in June
Owens Community College will offer area basketball players the opportunity to learn the sportís fundamentals as the College hosts six Express basketball camps in June.
The summer camp schedule for individual basketball instruction kicks off, June 6-9, with the Junior Express Basketball Camp for both boys and girls ages 7-10. From June 13-16 boys ages 11-17 will have the opportunity to participate in the Express Basketball Camp. Owens will host the Lady Express Basketball Camp for girls ages 9-15 from June 20-23. Attendees at each camp will receive expert instruction on various basketball skills, highlighted by offensive and defensive fundamentals.
Additionally, Owens will hold three basketball team camps in June. The Express Boys Varsity Team Camps will be held on June 10 and 11, with only 12 available openings for teams per day. Owensí Girls Varsity Team Camp will be held June 24 and is limited to the first 16 teams.
Instructors for the Express basketball camps will include the staffs of the Owens menís and womenís basketball programs.
Led by Head Coach Jim Welling, the menís basketball program concluded the 2004- 05 season with a 27-6 overall record and an 11-3 mark (second place) in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) regular season standings. Owens advanced to the finals of the NJCAA Region XII Championships before losing to Cuyahoga Community College. Wellingís team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the NJCAA Division II menís basketball poll.
The Owens Express womenís basketball program, led by Head Coach Mike Llanas, completed their season with a 19-12 overall record and a 9-5 mark (third place) in the OCCAC regular season standings. Llanasí squad advanced to the semifinals of the NJCAA Region XII Championships before losing to Schoolcraft College.
