Owens Community College Express Golf Holds Informational Meeting, June 8

Prospective high school graduates and area residents interested in playing intercollegiate golf are invited to an informational meeting at Owens Community College on Wednesday, June 8.

The information meeting begins at 5 p.m. and will be held in the College's Student Health and Activities Center Room 165 on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road, four miles from downtown Toledo.

The new Express Golf Program will officially begin NJCAA competition during the 2006 spring season and serve as a club sport this fall.

Owens' intercollegiate program will become a Division II member of the NJCAA and participate in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC). Owens will primarily compete against other community colleges from Ohio and Michigan. Academic institutions from the OCCAC competing in intercollegiate golf include Lakeland Community College, Columbus State Community College, Sinclair Community College, Terra Community College and Cincinnati State Community College.

Eight golf scholarships are available to both males and females and the Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg will serve as the College's home course.

Jim Welling, Owens Director of Student Enrichment and Athletics, will serve as Head Coach, while Bill Perry, Belmont Country Club Course Professional, will handle assistant coaching responsibilities.

For more information, call (567) 661-7973 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 7973.
