Owens Student Rotaract Club and Lowe's Home Improvement Help Guatemalan Farmers With Yard Tool Collection Drive, July 16

Owens Community College's Rotaract Club and Lowe's Home Improvement are reaching out to farmers in poverty-stricken areas of Guatemala by holding a yard tool collection drive on Saturday, July 16. Collected items will benefit Guatemalan farmers who are in desperate need of farming equipment to replace the currently used crude instruments.

Beginning at 10 a.m., the Owens Rotaract Club will be accepting donations of various new or used gardening and yard tools at all Lowe's Home Improvement warehouse locations throughout the Toledo area. Charitable items include new or used shovels, rakes, hoses, sledge hammers, picks, wheel barrows, sprinklers, trimmers, gloves, spades, saws, axes, cultivators, pitchforks, and shears, among other donations. The collection drive will conclude at 4 p.m.

Area residents can drop off their charitable items at the Lowe's Home Improvement warehouses located in Toledo (1136 W. Alexis Road), (5501 Airport Highway) and (7010 W. Central Avenue), and in Perrysburg (10295 Fremont Pike).

"Owens Community College's Rotaract Club is excited to not only make a difference in the lives of others locally, but also to expand our efforts and help individuals worldwide," said Daniel Reyes-Cairo, Owens Rotaract Club event coordinator. "We are honored to bring aid to the Guatemalan farmers and their families."

Reyes-Cairo added, "For many farmers in remote areas of Guatemala money to buy farm equipment doesn't come easy. Collecting the gardening and yard tools will really have a significant impact on their lives."

In conjunction with the yard tool collection drive, Lowe's will provide a special promotion for those individuals contributing to the event. The one-day promotion will be available at each of the participating Lowe's locations.

The recently established Owens Rotaract Club is a Rotary-sponsored international organization with a primary focus of providing community and international service.
