Owens Community College Strengthens Leadership With New Special Assistant for Government Relations Position

Jennifer Fehnrich Owens Community College is strengthening its leadership by naming Jennifer Fehnrich, formerly Owens director of public relations and marketing, as special assistant to the president for government relations. In her new role at the College, Fehnrich's primary responsibility will be to further strengthen relationships between Owens and the federal and state legislature.

As a representative of the College, Fehnrich will work with governmental officials and monitor legislative initiatives impacting Owens both in Columbus and in Washington, D.C. Her new position will also entail serving on federal and state committees and attending meetings, receptions and other relevant forums that educate legislative officials about the College's overall mission.

Additional responsibilities will include researching legislative issues for the College's economic and political initiatives at the federal, state and local levels. She will also foster relationships between Owens and government leaders and act as a liaison in advocating legislative and economic issues relating to the College.

"I am so proud to welcome Jennifer to the Government Relations position here at Owens," said Christa Adams, Ph.D., president of Owens Community College. "Her remarkable communications skills, combined with her ability to build collaborative partnerships with business and community leaders, will further enhance the awareness of issues affecting higher education among legislative officials in Columbus and in Washington, D.C."

Since July 2002, Fehnrich has served as the College's director of public relations and marketing. While in the Office of College Advancement, she orchestrated innovative advertising and public relations campaigns, managed the public relations and marketing budget, administered the Owens Web site, supervised a staff of Owens employees, and oversaw a wide variety of College events and publications.

Prior to working at Owens, Fehnrich spent three years in a marketing/communications role with Dana Commercial Credit, a subsidiary of Fortune 500 Dana Corp. in Toledo. Her primary responsibilities there included marketing a wide range of products to target audiences both domestically and internationally. She also managed the creation of Internet and Intranet Web sites, advertising campaigns, newsletters, press releases, multi-media projects and direct mail campaigns.

Fehnrich is a 2005 class graduate of Leadership Toledo, a non-profit organization that fosters leadership and involvement in the Greater Toledo area by developing awareness of community issues, needs and opportunities.

The Port Clinton native holds a bachelor's degree in communications from Bowling Green State University. Her professional involvement includes memberships with the American Marketing Association, the Business Marketing Association and the Association of Women in Communications. She resides in Perrysburg.
