Owens Community College Welcomes Back Thousands of Students Monday, Aug. 22, for Fall Semester

Opening its doors for the first day of Fall Semester classes, Owens Community College will once again welcome thousands of students to the Toledo-area and Findlay-area campuses.

On Monday, August 22, Owens students will be locating their classrooms, talking with academic advisors and purchasing books, as well as registering for classes.

In addition, Owens Community College is expanding its educational opportunities this fall to Lucas County by offering its first-ever courses on the Medical University of Ohio campus. Several academic courses will be taught by Owens faculty at MUO throughout the Fall Semester.

The College is also expanding upon its services by unveiling a remodeled a $737,000 dining facility now named the Fireside Grill. Individuals will be able to choose from a number of new food and beverage options, as well as study and relax in the new Express Café, the Sports Café and the Cyber Café.

Additionally, Monday marks a significant milestone in the College's history as the academic institution unveils a new $17.7 million Findlay-area Campus. With this facility, Owens becomes the only college or university in Ohio to officially open a completely new campus beginning with academic classes this fall.

Owens' Education Center will provide expanded choices and a variety of new academic resources, highlighted by 38 advanced technology classrooms, 27 technical and computer laboratories, as well as student services areas. Included in the new student services areas are a Bursar's Office, Records Office, Financial Aid Office and Enrollment Services Office.

Additional campus features include a Bookstore, Commons area, Library, Jaguar Grill, Conference Room, and the Voorhees Farmhouse and Conference Center. Encompassing 119,407 square feet, the new 60-acre campus is located at 3200 Bright Road on Findlay's northeast side.

To accommodate the record number of students, the College also within the last two years opened an $11 million Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the Toledo-area Campus. In addition, Owens broke ground for a new Center for Emergency Preparedness in 2004. The Center will be the only state-of-the-art facility of this magnitude within the Midwest.
