Owens Workforce and Community Services Offers New Residential Design Class Starting in September

If you can't get enough home and garden television and want to learn how to bring out the beauty in your lawn, become your own landscape expert as Owens Community College offers a new series of residential design classes beginning in September.

This residential design course will be offered on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m., starting September 27 and continuing through October 25. The classes will occur at the College's Workforce and Community Services Division, located on Tracy Road in Northwood.

"I plan to focus more on technical design principles so that attendees can learn how to make the correct choices when improving their landscape," said Jay Brewster, Owens instructor for the landscape course and a Registered Landscape Architect. "Residential design does not employ a cut and dry formula, but is an ongoing process of evaluation and decision making."

Brewster added, "Students often tell me they would like to observe these principles at work firsthand, and they will have that opportunity in this class."

The course also will highlight many examples of master plans related to residential landscaping, as well as drawings, slides and instructional literature. Additionally, attendees will take a field trip to the Brewster Residence Glass City Garden Center and Select Stone on Saturday, October 15 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The registration fee for the five-week class is only $95. Students are invited to bring drafting tools to create a master plan for their own residence as part of the educational experience. For more information, or to register, call (567) 661-7357 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 7357.
