Owens Raises Funds to Help Local Non-Profit Organizations During Community Giving Campaign Activities, Oct. 20

Area residents and Owens Community College employees and students are encouraged to make a difference in the lives of others as the academic institution hosts a variety of informational and interactive events as part of its annual Community Giving Campaign on Thursday, October 20. Proceeds from all activities will benefit Community Health Charities of Ohio, Earth Shares of Ohio, Northwest Ohio Community Shares and the United Way of Greater Toledo.

Community Giving Campaign events will occur from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the College Hall Atrium, as well as on the lawn adjacent to College Hall on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road, four miles from downtown Toledo.

Highlighting the afternoon activities from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. will be a Soccer Kicking Challenge in which participants will have the opportunity to test their soccer skills by attempting to sneak a goal past an Owens Express men’s soccer goalkeeper. Individuals who accomplish the feat will be awarded one of many prizes that will be given away throughout the day. Each person will receive two attempts at scoring a goal for $1.

In addition, attendees will be able to visit with representatives from the four participating organizations to ask questions and acquire more information about how a person can make a difference in the lives of others in need. The Organizational Fair will occur from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the College Hall Atrium. A bake sale will also be held in conjunction with the Organization Fair.

The theme of the College’s annual two-week Community Giving Campaign is “Making a Goal, Making a Difference.” Owens’ campaign runs from October 17-28. Last year’s campaign raised more than $15,000.

For more information about the two-week Community Giving Campaign or its many activities, call (567) 661-7493 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 7493.
