Owens Community College to Host Construction Trades Career Expo, Oct. 27

Over 1,000 students from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan will explore careers in construction as Owens Community College hosts a Construction Trades Career Expo on Thursday, October 27.

Sponsored by the Alliance of Construction Professionals, the event will occur from 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. in the College's Audio/Visual Classroom Center on the Toledo-area Campus. Owens is located on Oregon Road, four miles from downtown Toledo.

Attendees will be able to explore careers in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, tool and die making, electronics, mechanical equipment operations, carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal, construction millwrights, plastering, machining, pipefitting, plumbing, and roofing, among other areas.

"Construction Trades Career Expo day is a great opportunity for students to learn about the various careers within the construction industry," said Dave Siravo, Owens director of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Training. "Throughout the event, individuals can take advantage of the advice being offered by some of Northwest Ohio's premiere builders."

Among the local businesses participating in Construction Trades Career Expo are Rudolph Libbe Inc., The Lathrop Co., Mosser Construction Inc., the ACE Mentor program, Construction Careers Academy and the Transportation Planning Capacity Building program.

Area schools attending the event include Penta Career Center, Whitmer High School, Bowling Green High School and Toledo Public Schools.
