Owens Findlay-area Campus Offers First-Ever Beginning Japanese Course During Spring Semester

FINDLAY - Area residents interested in learning a new language or about another country's culture are encouraged to sign up for a new Beginning Japanese I course at Owens Community College's Findlay-area Campus. The introductory class is being offered to individuals in Findlay for the first time during the upcoming Spring Semester.

"This class is perfect for any individual interested in the beginning study of Japanese, whether they are a person who works in cross cultural business or the manufacturing setting, or are looking to fulfill language requirements for college," said Dr. Jason Tetzloff, Owens chair of Arts and Sciences on the Findlay-area Campus. "I anticipate in the near future to include the entire Japanese language sequence as part of the Findlay-area Campus academic curriculum."

The course will occur on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-6 p.m. and will be taught by Yumi Senour, a native Japanese speaker with extensive teaching and cultural experience. Owens' new class will be held on the Findlay-area Campus, which is located on Bright Road in Findlay.

Beginning Japanese I will cover various educational areas, including an introduction to the language and culture of the Japanese-speaking world. The course will also balance listening, speaking and reading basic Japanese, as well as the verbal structure and reading and writing Hiragana.

For more information or to register for the class, call (567) 429-3562 or 1-800-GO-OWENS, Ext. 3562. Spring Semester classes begin on January 9.
