Must I be licensed in the state of Ohio for employment as a radiographer?
Yes, in the state of Ohio and nearly every other state in the United States, individuals working with ionizing radiation in a healthcare setting must be licensed. In Ohio, as in most states, once graduates pass the ARRT Radiography Exam they submit that credential to the Ohio Department of Health, along with a fee, and their licenses will be issued. This license must be renewed every two years.
What are the college grievance policies?
Is it possible to take the national credentialing examination through the ARRT if one has a past felony conviction?
Maybe, this is handled by the ARRT on a case by case basis. A perspective student should apply to the ARRT for a preapplication review. For questions on review the ARRT contact information can be found at www.arrt.org.
Will classes taken at another college transfer in for this program?
Maybe, students should submit transcripts from all schools attended as part of their admissions application. It is important to get transfer credit prior to the selective admissions deadline. Course equivalencies can be found on Transferology (formerly U.select). See your academic advisor for more information.
If I am interested in a Bachelor's degree for Radiologic Technology, what colleges can I transfer to?
Graduates may pursue a bachelor’s degree at Bowling Green State University, Ohio University, and the University of Cincinnati. Meet with an Advisor or the Department Chair for more information.
What employment opportunities are available for Radiologic Technologists?
Program graduates will be prepared for positions as Radiologic technologists (radiographers or X-ray technologists) in hospitals, clinics and other healthcare agencies. Currently, there is a great need for Radiographers in the community and nation-wide. Graduates may work in the areas of radiography, and with additional experience can move into other imaging modalities such as bone densitometry, cardiovascular-interventional technology, computed tomography, or mammography. Radiographers are needed to fill positions in many hospitals and clinics providing patient services around the clock. Although most technologists are employed on a full-time basis, there are many part-time job opportunities available in the radiologic field. The Radiologic Technology program at Owens Community College provides students with the skills to successfully qualify for positions in:
- Hospitals
- Clinics
- Private Offices
- Industrial Laboratories
- Veterinary Medicine
- Research
- Commercial Sales
- Mobile
