Become a medical assistant in three semesters.

If you like working with people, completing a diverse set of activities, and are interested in helping others then a profession as a medical assistant may be a great option for you!  You can complete the medical assisting certificate in 3 semesters and some of our students become employed and earn tuition assistance while still enrolled in classes!

As a medical assistant, you will be the only allied health professional specifically trained to work in ambulatory settings (such as physician offices, clinics and group practices).  You will perform delegated clinical and administrative duties within the supervising physicians’ scope of practice, get to work with people, and enjoy a rewarding career in healthcare.

After you complete the certificate, you will be eligible to take a national certification exam and start your career as a credentialed medical assistant.

Certificate Details

The skills acquired through the Medical Assisting program ensure that you will be able to perform a variety of technical healthcare services including taking vital signs, giving injections, performing venipunctures, scheduling appointments, and assisting with minor office procedures.

A career in medical assisting is continually changing and varies from office to office.  It is an exciting and ever-changing career!

The Medical Assisting Certificate prepares you to enter the workforce as a qualified entry-level medical assistant in a variety of specialties.

The medical assisting portion of this certificate is in-person only.

Medical Assisting Program

Students interested in earning a degree while enrolled in, or after the Medical Assisting Certificate, can take additional general education coursework and graduate with an Associate of Applied Science Degree.

NOTE: To be admitted to the Medical Assisting certificate or program, you must first apply to the College and then (after being admitted to Owens) apply to the Medical Assisting certificate or program.
