Get Screened For Vascular Disease

Sonography

Do you have any of the following risk factors?

  • Age 50+
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Diabetes
  • Family history of stroke, vascular disease, and/or aneurysms
  • Tobacco use
  • Unhealthy diet

If so, you may consider signing up for a free vascular screening by Owens Vascular Sonography students. A registered vascular sonographer will be present at all times with the student. The screening is open to the general public including students, faculty and staff.

As part of the screening, the following three exams will be performed:

Carotid Scan

A screening of the carotid arteries to check for any narrowing or blockages. These are the blood vessels that supply blood flow to your brain. A build-up of plaque in these vessels is one of the leading causes of stroke.

Abdominal Aorta Scan

A screening of the abdominal aorta to check for any enlargements or aneurysms. An aneurysm can lead to rupture, which is a life-threatening medical emergency.

Lower Extremity Arterial Scan

An ankle-brachial index test can check for peripheral vascular disease that causes decreased blood flow to the legs and feet.

Appointment Information and Scheduling

Scans will be conducted on the Toledo-area Campus in a private setting.

All patients must sign a consent form/waiver to be scanned. You can download the form here and bring it with you to your appointment, or one will be available upon arrival.

Please note: You must fast and wear shorts for the exam.
