It’s On Us to Stop Sexual Assault

What Is Title IX?

Title IX is a federal regulation that ensures a workplace and educational environment free from harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.

Title IX includes sexual misconduct, which includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking and discrimination based upon sex, and applies to and protects all students, employees, third-party vendors and visitors to the campus.

“No individual in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” – Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and Its Implementing Regulation at 34 C.F.R. Part 106 (Title IX)

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in education programs and activities. Title IX protects students, employees and third parties with a relationship to the College, whether on or off campus.

Owens Community College is committed to providing safe campuses that are free from sexual misconduct, sexual harassment, and sexual assault and their harmful effects.

Owens will conduct its programs, services and activities in accordance with applicable federal laws, including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act, as well as state and local laws, and Owens policies.

Green Dots

Green Dots are ways that bystanders can intervene in situations in which someone may be in harms way regardless of your comfort level:

  • Think of a distraction that will defuse a situation directly such as asking for directions.
  • Ask someone to help on your behalf like friend, a coach, faculty member, advisor or peer.
  • Do something yourself (like ask someone to stop what they are doing).
