What is the HESI Test?
The HESI PN to ADN Exam is a 75-item comprehensive exam designed to be used as an assessment for currently licensed Practical/Vocational nurses seeking entrance into an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. This exam identifies strengths and weaknesses in PN/VN content areas, and the possible need for remediation prior to entrance into an ADN program.
What Does the Test Cover?
The HESI test measures competencies across PN/VN content areas including:
- Fundamental
- Pediatric Nursing
- Maternity
- Professional Issues
- Medical-Surgical
- Psychiatric/Mental Illness

How Long Will the Test Take?
The test will take approximately 2 hours to complete, but is not a timed test. Please budget at least 2.5 hours to take the exam.
How Do I Study For the Exam?
While there is no designated study guide for this exam, any NCLEX-PN study guide is appropriate.
How Much Does the HESI Test Cost?
The cost of the HESI test is $58, which is payable directly to HESI by credit/debit card right before testing.
What Do I Need To Bring With Me the Day of Testing?
- A valid picture ID
- Credit/Debit card
- Testing Center will provide scratch paper and pencils
Understanding the Results
Students will receive a printout of the results once they have completed the exam. the scores are then reviewed by the Selective Health Committee.
