Guide to Enrolling

We look forward to serving you as Owens becomes part of your life! We know that balancing college life with your many military, career, family and personal responsibilities can be extremely challenging.

We want to help you achieve your personal goals and get the most out of your college education.

Apply for VA Education Benefits

  • Visit VA Education Benefits to complete Form VA 22-1990.
  • This form will help you apply for educational benefits (GI Bill, etc.) and determine your eligibility.
  • Submit the completed form to the VA for processing.

Enrollment Process

  • Apply Online: Visit our How to Apply page to complete your application.
  • Submit FAFSA: Complete the FAFSA at fafsa.gov for financial aid, which includes federal loans and Pell Grants.
  • Register for Classes: After acceptance, enroll in your courses and consult an academic advisor if needed.
  • Complete Testing: If required, schedule any placement tests for math or English.

Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

  • After submitting VA Form 22-1990, the VA will send you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
  • This document confirms your eligibility for VA education benefits and is necessary for enrollment and benefits processing.

Semester Enrollment Form

  • Submit the Semester Enrollment Form to verify the classes and number of credits you will take each semester.
  • This form is required to ensure that your VA education benefits are processed for the correct courses.

Shopping Sheet

  • The shopping sheet is a required form to show students their estimated cost and aid they will be receiving for the upcoming academic year.
  • Email vets@owens.edu with a subject line of Shopping Sheet template to receive the documents needed to complete the form.

DD-214 Submission

  • Submit a copy of your DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to verify your military service.
  • The DD-214 is required for eligibility verification and to activate VA education benefits.

Military Transcript

Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard:

  • Submit your Joint Services Transcript (JST) taco have your military experience converted into college credit.

Air Force:

  • Request your Air Force Transcript through Air University.
  • Ensure your military transcripts are submitted to the college to receive credit for your prior service and training.

Documents that need to be submitted to Veterans Services:

(COE), Semester Enrollment form, DD-214, Shopping Sheet and Military Transcript.

  • Immediate family members who are using education benefits will also need to provide a copy of either a Marriage Certificate (spouse) or Birth Certificate (Dependent).

Forms can be submitted in person by visiting Veterans Hall Room 101, or emailed directly to vets@owens.edu.
