Carl joined the Owens team in 2008. With over 16 years of higher education corporate training program management, Carl is dedicated to helping you make optimal use of the resources of Owens Community College to strengthen your organization and the community. A native of Napoleon, Ohio, Carl is a former broadcasting personality, an alumnus of Bowling Green State University, and is certified as a Program Planner through the Learning Resources Network (LERN). Carl's corporate training experience includes curriculum development, event planning and management, consulting, presentation of training, sales, and customer service.
Pat has extensive expertise in the areas of sales, communication, and leadership. Holding a Masters degree in accountancy from Virginia Tech, she has run a ten-location fitness franchise as well as leading of an effective sales strategy and team for a computer software company. Pat’s training has resulted in reduced sales representative turnover and substantial sales increases in a variety of businesses and organizations.
Deborah Duke, Presenter/Consultant
Deborah Duke is the founder of DMA Leadership LLC. Her passion is to help business owners overcome obstacles and execute their vision, by providing leaders with the guidance needed to promote extraordinary organizational teamwork. Deborah holds a Masters in Organizational Management from Spring Arbor University and is accredited as a senior business advisor through the Institute for Independent Business. Her career background includes over a decade of experience in the telecommunications industry, specializing in sales and marketing.

Pattie is the President of her own consulting firm in Perrysburg, a prospering enterprise that she started in 2000. She holds a Business Services degree from the University of Toledo. Her consulting and training expertise includes strategic planning, management, performance management, hiring, and leadership. Tom Hofbauer has been working in the entertainment world for more than two decades. He started out as a comedian and spent portions of the next eight years traveling around the eastern half of the United States. After a brief acting stint in L.A., Tom started a successful writing career featuring screenplays and sitcom material. Tom is part of an improvisational comedy trouble called The Around the Bend Players. Tom was also the creator of a film called In the Company of Strangers, which debuted in Toledo in 2001 and won an award for Best Dramatic Feature Film in 2002. Today, Tom delivers inspirational and energizing seminars for Toledo area businesses seeking to improve teamwork and productivity – using innovative improvisational techniques.
Dave Mehl, Presenter/Consultant
Dave Mehl has over 30 years experience in professional Organization Development and Human Resources Management, in both domestic and international markets for manufacturing, high tech, A/E firms, and higher education. His skills include implementing innovative organization changes, including management structure and program design. In addition, he has a visionary attitude towards motivational techniques and problem-solving skills. Dave has a Masters in Organization Development from BGSU as well as an Industrial Management degree from the University of Akron.
Dr. Violeta Padrón
Violeta Padrón is originally from Spain. She has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Seville Spain and a PhD in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is the former director of the Wake Forest University Semester in Spain program and has over 15 years of experience as an educator and freelance translator.
Thomas Perin is a former successful business owner and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Findlay with a focus on human resource training and development. His results driven approach provides leadership and quality training to organizations that have a need for a strategic, teamwork and quality oriented goals. Thomas has extensive course programming and instructional experience in areas such as Business Management, Business Law, Human Resource Management, Hospitality Management, Team Building & Supervision, Strategic Management, Business Professionalism, Customer Service Management, Retail Management and Contemporary Business.
Christine Schneider Smith
Ms. Christine Schneider Smith received a B.A. from the College of Wooster, Wooster, Ohio and an M.A. from the University of New Mexico. In addition to teaching, Ms. Schneider Smith has worked as a manager, and supervisor in the private sector, local governmental units and social service organizations. Ms. Schneider Smith has successfully operated as an independent trainer and management consultant since 1986. She holds the distinction of Certified Professional Consultant (CPC) awarded by the International Society of Speakers, Authors & Consultants.
Ernie Toth, Instructor/Consultant
Ernie Toth has been an instructor and consultant for the Owens School of Technology’s Environmental Management area since 1996. Ernie’s expertise includes a broad range of industrial safety, environmental, and hazardous materials training programs. He is an authorized trainer for the OSHA outreach training program, as well as a trainer meeting the requirements of the Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute (HMTRI).
Joseph Zielinski, Presenter/Consultant
Joe has many years of experience working in and consulting with private industry. He has taught classes in strategic management, team building, supervision, and labor/management relations for Owens main campus students since the mid 1990s. Joe holds a business degree from Cleveland State University and has extensive experience in public accounting and financial auditing for large companies. His training presentation style maximizes engagement and participation by the attendees.
