Training Program Description

This program is fully customizable to suit your needs, in terms of content and program length.

Module 1: Programmable Logic Controllers (25-30 hours)

This module includes study of controllers capable of being programmed with logic systems. Controller operation and programming is explained in terms of equipment used in manufacturing. Before receiving this training, participants should have familiarity motor control and relay logic systems.

Upon completion of this course the student will:

  • Understand the operation of Modicon 984 compact programmable controllers.
  • Be able to program a typical motor control operation using the Modicon Controllers.
  • Be prepared for advanced Programmable Controllers systems.

Topics Covered:

  • Introduction to PLC's - hardware differentiation, numbering systems
  • Relay Logic Functions
  • I/O scan and program scan
  • Proworx NXT Software Programming
  • Principles of Programming - series/parallel networks, ladder logic
  • Examine ON, Examine OFF, Timing and Counting instructions.
  • SKP (Zone Control Logic)
  • PLC Programming
  • Introduction to advanced PLC's

Module 2: Programming Control - Advanced (25-30 hours)

This module includes continued study of controllers capable of being programmed with logic systems. Emphasis is placed on Allen Bradley Programmable Controller Systems, programming, applications and troubleshooting.

Upon completion of this course the student will:

  • Have a good knowledge of more advanced and larger programmable logic controller systems.
  • Understand, operate, program Allen Bradley SLC 500 and PLC/5 controllers. Topics Covered:
  • Overview of Allen Bradley Programmable Controller
  • Rslogix and Rslinks communication software for the controller - software menus and addressing
  • Discrete instruction programming and data monitoring, on-line and off-line programming
  • Download and Upload logic programs between a computer and controller.
  • Editing methods, inserting and removing instructions and rungs
  • Timer and Counter instructions
  • Math Instructions - - +, -, x, /
  • Troubleshooting programming controls
  • Hardware & Software configuration (SLC)
  • Rslogix and Rslinks for AB controllers
  • Software menus and addressing
  • Discrete instruction programming and data file monitoring (SLC)
  • Data manipulations, equal to, less than, greater than instructions
  • Zone Control MCR , jmp and LBL Instructions

Module 3: Programmable Logic Control Applications (25-30 hours)

This module includes continued study of controllers capable of being programmed with logic systems. Emphasis in this course is on applying the programmable logic controllers to typical applications used in industry. Writing programs and coordinating them to actual machinery/schematics allows the student to apply the knowledge to actual industrial situations.

Upon completion of this course the student will:

  • Be able to apply the theory learned in Modules 1 & 2 to actual machine applications and operation.
  • Understand problems and procedures involved in practical programmable logic controller application.

Topics Covered:

  • Review of AB SLC 500 controllers - file structure, file organization.
  • Create logic programs to run multi-station machine.
  • PLC Interface to Panelmate - operation, hardware requirements, communications, I/O
  • Programming of Panelmate - graphics, touch screen programming I/O
  • PLC Communication across Network - communication from Panelmate to PLC, I/O from PLC to Panelmate, Panelmate to Modicon controllers.
  • PLC to PLC Network - Modicon to Modicon to Panelmate MMI screen.
  • Automation of Process through PLC Communication - Integrated Panelmate PLC Project, Safety Devices & PLC Inputs
