Stay calm – make sure the scene is safe before rendering aid.

Call – 9-1-1 or the Department of Public Safety (567) 661-7575 as soon as possible.  If you are alone and do not have a cellphone, yell as loudly as possible for help.

When speaking with emergency services – give as much information as you can.  Tell them:

  1. The type of emergency (describe the injury or illness if known)
  2. Give your location (describe the name of the building, what floor you are on, what room you are in or near)
  3. Any medical information known (this may be directly from the injured/ill person or from a medical bracelet/necklace they are wearing)
  4. Do not hang up until you are told to do so

Do not move the injured person, unless in danger

Render aid – if properly trained, offer to render first aid.  Render CPR if properly trained.

Get an AED – have someone get an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in the event it is needed.  Those individuals who feel comfortable using an AED may do so at their discretion.
