Networking Explored
HOST: Lori Owens is an Advisor for Owens Career & Transfer Services. She has worked in higher education for over 30 years, mostly at Owens Community College. She’s been an English composition instructor, a GED teacher, a student mentor and lately, a career services advisor for health and business programs. In her spare time, she enjoys reading fiction, birdwatching and geocaching.

Join The BIG Read on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 12-1 p.m. in the Admissions office (College Hall 138) for their next book club. This year, the book club will be traveling with fun snacks and hosted by several different offices, where we will learn about neurodiversity through the book selected and discuss how the host office can better support neurodiverse students.
Afterwards, join Counseling Services for the opening of its Multi-Sensory Room in College Hall 124 at 1 p.m..
Like all BIG Read (TBR) events, the traveling book club is open to all students, faculty and staff and aspires to foster empathy and deepen understanding through shared conversations and diverse perspectives.
We will discuss: Chapters 5 & 6. If you don’t have a chance to read it all, come anyway; there is a lot to learn and the discussions are so great!

The League of Women Voters of Ohio will be on campus four times to help with voter engagement and provide educational resources. All visits are from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.

The events will register students to vote, share nonpartisan election information and answer questions about voting in Ohio. As a designated “Voter Friendly Campus,” Owens provides resources and education to our student voters so they can demonstrate active citizenship on campus and off. All voter education and voter registration efforts are non-partisan and do not promote any specific candidate or issue.
The School of Liberal Arts is hosting a free public screen of the new feature film “The American Constitution” at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24 in College Hall 100. The film explores the origins of the American system of government.
Admission to the event is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
Owens is hosting the 16th annual Theatre Express event on Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA). Theatre Express is a presentation of new 5-to-10-minute plays written, cast and rehearsed and performed in a 24-hour time period. It’s open to all Owens students and faculty as well as the community.
Interested parties will preregister on a sign-up sheet posted outside of Room 111 in the CFPA or by emailing John Toth and john_toth2@owens.edu.
Actors will arrive for a short registration on Sept. 26, wearing an outfit that depicts their character. Playwrights write ten-minute plays overnight and then the actors return on Saturday and rehearse throughout the day. The plays are performed for a live audience at 7:30 p.m.
