Second-year Dental Hygiene students will present their informative posters from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4 in the Math/Science Galleria at the 5th annual Dental Hygiene Symposium. The topics include:
- Tooth Be Told, Your Gut’s Involved: The correlation between Periodontal Disease and Gut Disorders
- The Noise You Can’t Ignore: Hearing Loss in Dentistry: Hearing Loss in the Dental Field
- Menopause Bites Back: Gum Health in the Age of Hot Flashes: Menopausal effects on the periodontium
- A Bidirectional Bridge: The Association Between PCOS and Periodontal Disease: The relationship between PDD and PCOS and how they interact with each other
- Laser-Focused Relief: Advancing the Treatment of Dentinal Hypersensitivity: Laser treatment for dentinal hypersensitivity
- The Tongue Tells All: Clinical Signs of Systemic Conditions: Tongue coatings and their ties to systemic conditions
- Soothe and Heal: The Impact of Aloe Vera on the Mouth: Aloe vera’s role in oral care
- More Than a Smile: Uncovering the Hidden Effects of Stress and Anxiety on Oral Health: Mental health problems’ effects on the oral cavity
- Crafting Confident Smiles: Dentition and Oral Care in Down Syndrome: Dentition for individuals with down syndrome
- Beyond the Snore: Sleep Apneas Dental Delima: Sleep apnea and sleeping devices and their effect on the oral cavity

This open forum event allows the Dental Hygiene students the opportunity to educate and bring awareness to the public, students, staff and dental professionals. On Nov. 8, the Dental Hygiene students will take their informative posters to the Ohio Dental Hygienists’ Association Annual Session to complete against nearly 75 dental hygiene students from across the state.
