Co-presented by TMACOG and Owens Community College.
What if your next career move could help shape the future of your community? Discover how public service can be not just a job, but a calling that places you in a fulfilling, rewarding position. More than 25 percent of public employees over the age of 50 will become eligible to retire within the next decade.
This is not a job fair or a hiring event, but a chance to explore the many careers with local governments and public organizations across the region.
Learn about the benefits of working and retiring from the public sector, whether you’re a student studying career options or someone considering a new direction.
During a Career Exploration Expo, you’ll visit with public employers from across the region to learn about the types of positions they offer and the skills and education that can equip you to pursue your goals.
Then, we’ll help you dig deeper during breakout sessions with panels of public employees who will share their personal journeys, insights into their roles, and practical advice for those considering similar paths. Hear how they got started, what keeps them motivated, and the benefits of serving the public, including strong retirement plans and career stability.
We’ll have professionals from fields that include:
- Public safety: firefighting, law enforcement, EMS and dispatching.
- Public service: planning, zoning, facilities and operations.
- Public works: engineering, utilities and infrastructure maintenance.
- Administration: economic development, finance, communications and human resources.
- Information services: education, libraries, mapping and technology
- Parks and recreation: stewardship, management and programming.
