Outstanding PTA Graduate Ibrahim Barayseh Returned to School With One Goal and Achieved It
Ibrahim Barayseh already holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, so he returned to college with one goal in mind — to serve his community.
He found just the right fit to do that at Owens Community College. Barayseh will graduate in May with his Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) and as an outstanding graduate in the program.
“Owens gave me a chance to return to school to do what has always been my goal,” Barayseh said.
Barayseh is originally from Amman, Jordan, and moved to Sylvania as a senior in high school. He admitted it was “rough” returning to school as an older student, but he added that PTA instructor Cathy Hauptman and adjunct instructor Diana Couts helped him through his time.
According to PTA program chair Sara Burke, Barayseh was a valuable and influential leader, offering support and guidance to his classmates while being an active participant in all facets of the program.
“He’s shown strong curiosity and confidence from the very beginning, never hesitating to ask questions and always eager to deepen his understanding. He is known for helping classmates by explaining concepts clearly and in ways that meet their individual needs, demonstrating both knowledge and empathy,” Burke said.
“He consistently demonstrates the qualities essential to an outstanding PTA — kindness, professionalism, strong communication and the ability to present information effectively — making him an exceptional and well‑rounded candidate for recognition.”
Barayseh appreciated the hands-on learning experience at Owens, which he said isn’t found at other schools.
Next up, Barayseh plans to find a job at an outpatient clinic treating orthopedic and sports-related injuries.
