Hermiller Decided to Come Home, Find Success as Owens Outstanding PTA Graduate
Jeramy Hermiller was already quite familiar with Owens Community College when he decided to transfer from the University of Findlay—his mom, Amy, is a math professor at the Findlay-area Campus.
The decision definitely paid off for Jeramy Hermiller. He is graduating in spring 2025 as the outstanding graduate in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program.
Hermiller said he tried to go above and beyond to prepare for class while also being a voice for his classmates and leading study groups.
“It’s humbling and honoring to know that my classmates and instructors and people in the program thought I was worthy of it, and they recognized the work I put in,” Hermiller said. “It makes it all worthwhile to strive to do really well in the program.”
Hermiller was a soccer player at both Ottawa-Glandorf High School and the University of Findlay. While it was difficult to leave the Oilers program, he saw how affordable and familiar Owens was and knew it was the right choice.
“For me, it was a no-brainer to transfer to Owens,” Hermiller said. “It was really hard to leave the soccer program at Findlay, but in the long run, I feel like it was the right decision.”
It was that experience in athletics that led Hermiller to PTA. He didn’t know much about the program or opportunities at first, but the more he looked into it and talked to people, the more perfect the fit became.
“As I did research and I started talking to people in the program, I saw how valuable it is as a program,” Hermiller said. “As I got into the program, I realized how much more we can do as PTAs than people realize.”
The next stop for Hermiller is Bowling Green State University, where he will pursue a bachelor’s degree in Allied Health while working as an “as needed” PTA.
He knows his decision to transfer to Owens and his experience has set him up for success in his future.
“Everyone knows everyone, so you get a good one-on-one connection and teachers will help you succeed,” Hermiller said. “It’s a great affordable option, but you’re getting just as good, if not better, education than other, more expensive places.”
