A Single Class Pointed Outstanding Graduate Michael Blevins Toward His Future in Healthcare
A Language of Medicine class changed everything for Michael Blevins.
Already knowing he wanted to work in healthcare but unsure of the specifics, Blevins came to Owens Community College to explore his options. Once he took that course, the path became clear. He entered the Health Information Technology (HIT) program and will graduate in May with his Associate of Science as the program’s outstanding graduate.
“I always wanted to be a part of healthcare but did not want the stress of being on the frontline,” Blevins said. “The HIT program allows me to work with clinicians and other healthcare professionals, but more behind the scenes.”
Blevins, of Risingsun, gave special credit to HIT professor Teresa McGaharan, who he considers more mentor than teacher.
“Teresa has recognized my efforts since day one and has really gone beyond the average connection that I had with professors of previous classes,” he said.
His mother’s belief in him has also been a constant source of support throughout his journey.
“She has always believed in me, been there for me and supported my journey throughout the years,” he said.
After graduation, Blevins will attend the University of Cincinnati to complete his bachelor’s degree.
