About Our Program

The Owens Community College Early Learning Center uses the Reggio Emilia philosophy in teaching children. Named after a small town in Italy, the Emilia philosophy stresses reflection, practice and further reflection.

The philosophy states that every child has the right to grow and learn in a favorable environment. The preschools in Reggio Emilia are regarded as one of the 10 best early childhood programs in the world, according to several national publications.

Gold Rated

Step Up to Quality recognizes early care and education programs that exceed quality benchmarks over and above Ohio’s licensing standards.

The Owens Early Learning Center is a Gold-rated child care center in Hancock County. This quality rating, awarded by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services is based on criteria including the teacher-to-children ratio per classroom, teacher training, the enrolled child’s early education experience and the enrolled child’s focus on continuous improvement.

Center Hours

The Center is open from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, including College breaks.

If the College is officially closed then the Center is closed. Please see the academic calendar for closings.

In the event of closing for bad weather or other emergency conditions, follow local media announcements or sign up for the Owens Alert System.

Toddler, Preschool, Prekindergarten and School-age Care

The center serves care for children starting at 18 months of age. We have a designated toddler classroom and preschool/prekindergarten classroom.

Families are asked to select a consistent schedule for their child. Families are asked to sign a contract of commitment to their schedule. Additional days may be added if the center enrollment allows. School age program is limited to the summer months.

There may be restrictions on the part-time hours based on the family’s payment source. Of course, we are delighted to serve your family’s full-time childcare needs.
