After You Register
Get Ready To Start Your Classes
Set yourself up for success after you register for courses with this easy checklist! The advising team is ready to help if you have any questions.
What To Do After You Register
Step 1: Meet with Student Financial Services
Contact the Student Financial Services Office for support with all your college financial needs through graduation.
Once you’ve registered, we’ll assign you a Student Financial Services (SFS) Advisor. Whether you want to research financial aid, pay a bill or set up a payment plan, your SFS advisor is here to help.
Pro tip: Make sure to meet with your SFS Advisor before the start of each semester. Don’t forget to check Ozone and Omail+ regularly for important updates and deadlines.
Step 2: Check Your Tech
As an Owens student, you’ll need a functional computer to register for classes, submit assignments and access important resources. If you don’t have a personal laptop, you can use a computer in one of our campus computer labs. You can also borrow a laptop from one of the Owens libraries at the Toledo-area or Findlay-area campuses.

Ordering textbooks is easy! Just visit the Owens Bookstore online and shop by schedule or by courses.
Some courses offer “inclusive access materials” that include e-textbooks, test codes and other course materials. The cost for these materials will be billed as a book fee when you register. You can access these resources in Blackboard 10 days before the start of your class.
Need help paying for textbooks? If you get financial aid, you might be eligible for a book voucher!
If you have questions about your book voucher eligibility or any amount you may have available, please contact your Student Financial Services advisor.
Step 4: Sign Up for Owens Alerts
The Owens Alert System keeps you safe and informed. You’ll get notices by phone, email and text when the College or your campus is closed due to inclement weather or an emergency.
- Log in to your Ozone account.

Owens uses the Blackboard platform for online course content and materials. You’ll find course syllabi, instructor expectations, instructions for submitting assignments, grades and more for all your courses.
Step 6: Meet Your Academic Advisor
At Owens, you’re never navigating your academic journey alone. Your Academic Advisor will partner with you to help you remain on track as you navigate your path to graduation.
You’ll find your advisor’s name and email and can schedule an Academic Advising appointment in Workday within your Academics hub.
Don’t Miss: Important Registration Policies
Attendance and Withdrawal Policies
Attendance and active participation are critical to your success and learning, so attendance is tracked in all classes. Attendance will be recorded according to your course format (e.g., face-to-face or online).
If your instructor reports that you have not been attending class, you may be dropped from the course for nonattendance. This might negatively impact your financial aid. If you have any attendance concerns or expected absences, please inform your instructor right away.
Withdrawing From a Course
We strongly recommend that you talk with your Academic Advisor and reach out to your SFS Advisor before making any changes to your schedule.
You can withdraw from classes in one of two ways:
- Withdraw through Ozone: Look for the Registration card, then click the Add/Drop Classes link and choose the correct registration term. From the course list on the registration screen, select the web drop option from the drop-down menu. Click Submit to complete the drop.
- Withdraw via a paper Registration Add/Drop Form: Completed Registration Add/Drop Forms may be submitted to Student Financial Services by fax, mail or in person at the Student Financial Services office.
You have not officially dropped a class unless you have submitted the proper form to Student Financial Services and received confirmation, or you have dropped the course via Ozone.
To verify an official drop via Ozone, please check your class schedule on the Registration card. Once dropped, the class will no longer appear on your schedule.
Tuition Refunds
When you withdraw from one or more courses, you may be eligible for a tuition refund depending on when you withdraw. There are three refund deadlines throughout each term. You can use the class schedule search to find your course’s refund deadlines.
- Full refund: You will be refunded all tuition and fees if you drop before this deadline.
- 60% refund: You will be refunded 60% of tuition and fees and remain responsible for 40%.
- 50% refund: You will be refunded 50% of tuition and fees and remain responsible for 50%.
If you withdraw after the 50% deadline, you will remain responsible for the course’s full tuition and fees.
Financial Aid Consequences
If you stop attending classes or withdraw from one or more courses, you may lose part or all of your financial aid or veterans benefits. If you withdraw or stop attending, any excess financial aid you receive must be repaid before further financial assistance is disbursed.
Before you withdraw or stop attending a course, it’s important to talk with your Academic Advisor and consult with your SFS Advisor first. If you receive veteran benefits, speak to the Veterans Services team.
