Around 30 students from the Owens ASPIRE program will graduate at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 in Veterans Hall 201. The students will receive their high school equivalency (HSE) certification.
The Owens Aspire program offers free classes on campus and at many sites along the I-75 corridor, from Toledo to Findlay in adult basic skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages and other Workforce training. This ceremony marks the culmination of much hard work for graduates who have persevered and overcome many challenges to attain their academic goals.
The AnR Program invites local artists in the Greater Toledo Area to spend the summer at the Owens Community College Center for Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA). The artist will have the opportunity to use the studio spaces, instruct workshops or classes, display artwork in Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery, or perform in the CFPA Mainstage Theatre. An Opening Reception will be held June 5 between 5-7 p.m.
A celebration of the start of Jules Webster’s Artist in Residency, entitled “Super Natural,” will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 5 in the Walter E. Terhune Art Gallery.
Julie (Jules) Webster is an American landscape painter and a former potter and metalsmith. Jules approaches two-dimensional painting with a strong materials-based sensibility. She is an educator, entrepreneur, community arts advocate, art materials expert and the owner/founder of The Art Supply Depo. With two locations located in Sylvania and Bowling Green, The Art Supply Depo provides high quality art materials, employment opportunity, exhibitions and educational workshops for adults and teens.
“The works in this exhibition are Super Natural, presenting garden, forest and floral still-lifes that depict idealized, dreamlike environments. Meticulously arranged natural elements are depicted in expressive color to evoke a sense of serenity and awe. In a complicated world, my work provides a moment of pause. As environments for appreciating wonder and enjoying privacy increasingly disappear, I seek to preserve and recreate solitude. The work transports viewers to tranquil spaces free of worry and concern – renewing a sense of calm – and connection to the beauty of stillness.” — Jules Webster
