Free Tuition, Prizes Headline Owens’ First Registration Palooza

Owens Community College is hosting its first Registration Palooza event on Wednesday, September 30 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in College Hall. The event is an opportunity for new and returning students to register for spring 2027 classes, connect with various student service offices and have some fun while at it.

“We always like to get students registered early, that way the class schedule fits their work and family obligations,” said David Shaffer, Owens executive director of Student Services. “With the holidays coming up, it kind of shrinks the registration window. This way, we can meet all the needs of our students.”

Among the various giveaways and events, one lucky student who registers before Sept. 30 will receive free tuition for the spring semester. The winner does not need to be present at the event and will be drawn at random.

The first 150 students who attend Registration Palooza will receive a special gift. There will also be hourly prize drawings for an iPad, gift cards and more.

Students can also enjoy a petting zoo from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. along with free food and games throughout the day.

In addition to all of the fun and giveaways, students can connect with important resources at Owens, including advisors with Student Financial Services who will be on hand.

“We want to have a registration event and have the support services there, but we also want to have the food and the games to have some engagement,” Shaffer said. “College is also about students meeting other students. We find when students are engaged, they’re more apt to be successful in college.”

According to Shaffer, there is nothing in particular students need to bring to the event. “We’ll be there to support them. We’re prepared to meet them where they’re at,” he said.
