Veterans and Active Duty Enrollment Checklist

We appreciate your service to our nation and look forward to serving you as part of the Owens community. We understand that balancing college, military commitments, work and family responsibilities can be challenging.
Our goal is to help you succeed, achieve your personal goals and make the most of your college experience.

Guide to Enrolling
Apply for VA Education Benefits
- Visit the VA Education Benefits to complete Form VA 22-1990.
- This form will help you apply for educational benefits (GI Bill, etc.) and determine your eligibility.
- Submit the completed form to the VA for processing.
Complete the Enrollment Process
- Apply Online: Visit our How to Apply page to complete your application.
- Submit the FAFSA: Complete the FAFSA at fafsa.gov to apply for financial aid, including federal loans and Pell Grants.
- Register for Classes: After acceptance, enroll in your courses and consult an academic advisor if needed.
- Complete Testing: If required, schedule any placement tests for math or English.
Submit Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
- After submitting VA Form 22-1990, the VA will send you a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
- This document confirms your eligibility for VA education benefits and is necessary for enrollment and benefits processing.
Submit Semester Enrollment Form
- Submit the Semester Enrollment Form to verify the classes and number of credits you will take each semester.
- This form is required to ensure that your VA education benefits are processed for the correct courses.
Review Shopping Sheet
- The shopping sheet is a required form to show students their estimated cost and aid they will be receiving for the upcoming academic year.
- Email Veterans Services with a subject line of Shopping Sheet template to receive the documents needed to complete the form.
Submit Military Transcript
Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard:
- Submit your Joint Services Transcript (JST) to have your military experience converted into college credit.
Air Force:
- Request your Air Force Transcript through Air University.
- Ensure your military transcripts are submitted to the college to receive credit for your prior service and training.
Submit Required Documents to Veterans Services
COE, Semester Enrollment form, Shopping Sheet and Military Transcript
- Immediate family members who are using education benefits will also need to provide a copy of either a Marriage Certificate (spouse) or a Birth Certificate (Dependent).
- Forms can be submitted in person by visiting Veterans Hall, Room 101, or emailed directly to Veterans Services.
