Severe Weather/Tornado
Tornado Warnings are communicated via the Owens Department of Public Safety or the Owens Alert System.
What to Do in the Event of Severe Weather/Tornado
- Seek shelter; find a designated shelter if possible
- If a designated shelter can’t be located, try to:
- Move towards the interior of the building
- Find a bathroom or a room without windows
- Stay out of hallways—these areas can become wind tunnels during severe weather
- Stay away from large furniture that can fall on you
- Stay away from large-span ceilings like auditoriums
- Avoid windows
- Assist others if possible
- Do not pull the fire alarm
- Wait for the all-clear message
