Booking Terrace View Café for Special Events

Overview

Terrace View Café is available for luncheons prepared by our students and may be reserved exclusively for your special guests.

All café events provide students with opportunities to experience real-world food service scenarios, including decision-making, menu planning, task assignment, food preparation and service activities.

Booking Criteria and Class Integration

Because student involvement and learning are our primary priorities, direct support is offered only while classes are in session. Private booking requests are accepted within the timeframes outlined in the Important Dates section below. Factors considered when approving support from one of the Food, Nutrition and Hospitality classes include the date and time of your event, which classes are active on that date, the expected number of guests and the type of service (plated, buffet, etc.).

All requests for a Terrace View Café booking are reviewed and matched with a culinary class best suited to the event’s specific needs. Key factors in this matching process include course objectives, student learning outcomes and class schedules.

Participating Culinary Courses

The number of culinary classes available to prepare luncheons is limited; however, the fall and spring sessions routinely include the following (other classes may also be able to provide support):

Pre-Event Planning

For approved bookings, a meeting will be scheduled approximately six weeks before the event between the requestor, the chef instructor for the culinary class implementing the function and the culinary operations manager. Discussion will include:

Event Details and Considerations

Terrace View Café will comfortably seat about 60 guests.

For each occasion, we work with the requestor on menu selection, dining room arrangement, linen colors, centerpieces, music genre and other details.

Technology and Equipment

Technology available in the TVC includes a podium with a microphone, a projector with a computer connection, TV monitors and a drop-down screen. Any additional needs must be coordinated through IT by the requester.

Important Dates

For events in the Spring Semester, it is recommended that requests be initiated between September and December.

For events in the Fall Semester, it is recommended that requests be initiated between April and July.

This advance notice allows chef instructors to incorporate your event into their upcoming semester lesson plans.

How to Book

While this space is available to reserve for many types of events, it also serves as a classroom. Dates and times will be approved with consideration of the current class schedule. Departmental operations and Food, Nutrition and Hospitality class needs will be prioritized.

For events that include food prepared by culinary students, reservations will be completed by Food, Nutrition and Hospitality staff. Email requests submitted to the Culinary Lab should include point of contact information, date and time, number of guests and a general description of the event.

For events that do not include Food, Nutrition and Hospitality support, such as those with outside catering or scheduled on weekends, reservations must be requested through the Special Event Rental Guide.

The Food, Nutrition and Hospitality Department’s Culinary Program welcomes the opportunity to plan and execute your event at Terrace View Café. Thank you for your consideration and support.
