From Class to Career: Medical Coding in Three Semesters
You’ll start by building a strong foundation in health information systems, medical terminology, pathopharmacology, and human anatomy and physiology. From there, you’ll advance to clinical classification and coding systems, including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS Level II, while gaining hands-on experience with the technology and software used in modern healthcare settings.
Throughout the program, you’ll also master medical reimbursement principles and the legal and ethical considerations of handling patient information.
Pathway to Advanced Certification
Credits earned in this certificate apply toward Owens’ Health Information Technology, AAS program, positioning you to pursue certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).

Begin your high-quality education at an affordable price today!
To be admitted to the Medical Coding certificate you must first fill out an online admissions application and then (after being admitted to Owens) apply to the Medical Coding certificate.
Upon acceptance, schedule a meeting with your admissions advisor to register for classes. Next, attend an on-campus orientation and meet with your student financial services advisor to discuss ways to pay for college.
