In your first semester, you’ll develop essential skills in composition, critical thinking and psychology while building a healthcare foundation through anatomy and physiology, medical terminology and an introduction to health science careers.
Your second semester expands your understanding of anatomy and physiology while you explore life span psychology. You’ll also strengthen your math and quantitative reasoning skills, study sociology and enhance your communication abilities through courses in public speaking or interpersonal communication.
Elevate your analytical and clinical skills with advanced composition, ethics, and microbiology and immunology. The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training provides valuable direct patient-care experience and earns you a certification that employers and advanced programs highly value.
Finally, select electives that align with your interests and diagnostic medical sonography career goals, allowing you to tailor your education while broadening your perspective in health sciences and related fields.
Career Outcomes
Upon graduation, you’ll have completed all the science prerequisites and healthcare fundamentals needed for Owens’ Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology, AAS program. You can also pursue transfer options into bachelor’s programs not related to sonography.
To practice as a sonographer, you must pass a national certification exam through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
