Your two-semester journey begins with sterile processing fundamentals, where you’ll develop the critical skills that keep operating rooms safe and surgeries successful. You’ll become an expert in identifying, inspecting and handling sophisticated surgical instruments and medical devices—learning the intricate details that can mean the difference between life and death in the operating room.
Through hands-on training with industry-standard sterilization equipment, you’ll master multiple sterilization methods and understand the science behind infection control. Develop expertise to prevent the spread of dangerous microorganisms and protect both patients and healthcare workers.
Your education extends beyond technical skills with coursework in anatomy and physiology and medical terminology. Enhanced composition training will sharpen your communication and critical thinking abilities, preparing you to collaborate effectively with surgical teams and document procedures with precision.
In the spring, gain real-world expertise through 180 hours of immersive clinical experience in actual healthcare facilities. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals, applying your skills in fast-paced environments and building the confidence employers seek.

Getting Started at Owens
Begin your high-quality education at an affordable price today! To be admitted to the Sterile Processing certificate program, you must first apply to the College and then (after being admitted to Owens) apply to the Sterile Processing certificate program.
We’ll ask you to submit your transcripts for course placement and college credit. Upon acceptance, schedule a meeting with your admissions advisor to register for classes. Next, attend an on-campus orientation and meet with your student financial services advisor to discuss ways to pay for college.
