Power Up Your Nursing
Step up to RN and provide advanced clinical care.
Registered nurses earn significantly more than LPNs, with RN salaries averaging $77,600 annually compared to $50,090 for LPNs. Hospitals and healthcare facilities employ RN’s for their advanced assessment skills and ability to manage multiple patients. You’ll bridge from LPN to RN in just three semesters, building on your existing experience while gaining the critical thinking and leadership skills that make RNs indispensable to patient care teams.
With immersive clinical experience and real-world application, this program will prepare you for the expanded responsibilities of a registered nurse.
Traits that will set you apart as a great RN:
- Clinical Expertise: You’ll develop deep knowledge of nursing practices, advanced patient assessment and evidence-based care
- Compassionate Communication Skills: You’ll show empathy for every patient and communicate clearly with families and healthcare teams
- Adaptability: You’ll embrace technology flexibly and confidently guide care in any situation

From LPN to RN in Three Semesters
In your first semester, you’ll strengthen your foundation with anatomy and physiology while studying human behavior in general psychology. A transitional concepts course will help bridge the gap between your LPN and RN roles.
During the second semester, you’ll advance your understanding of the human body with additional anatomy and physiology coursework and tackle ethical decision-making and adult health concepts. Throughout your study, you’ll combine lectures, labs and clinical experiences to care for patients with a range of conditions.
You’ll study evidence-based practice in your third semester with courses like microbiology, immunology, composition and statistics. You’ll refine your clinical expertise through complex health concepts and applied concepts for nursing practice, applying advanced skills directly in patient care.
Throughout the program, you’ll benefit from a curriculum designed to seamlessly integrate theory and practice. You’ll gain hands-on experience in our state-of-the-art high-fidelity simulation lab, with each course including dedicated time in both the skills lab and human patient simulator labs.

Selective Admission
LPN/ADN Progression Program, AAS is a “Selective Health” program—meaning we can only admit a limited number of students each year. Prospective students should apply to Owens first, then to the LPN/ADN Progression program. Class admission uses a point-based system based on your academic record.
First, we look at your grade point average (GPA). Next, bonus points are awarded for many LPN/ADN general education course earning a C or better. If you haven’t taken enough of those courses, we look only at your high school GPA. General education courses can be taken before you’re admitted to the program.
If you choose a different program at Owens, these general education courses may also count toward it. Work with your advisor early and often if you are considering multiple programs. See how the points work.
For clinical placement, you are required to submit documentation of a completed health exam, background check and additional requirements.
Accreditation
The LPN/ADN Progression Program is approved through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
The Registered Nurse program (which includes the LPN/ADN progression program) is accredited through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
