In this three-semester, in-person Medical Assisting Certificate program, you’ll build the skills to step confidently into a healthcare career. Your classes begin with the fundamentals—medical terminology, basic clinical procedures, administrative duties and the legal and ethical foundations of patient care.
As you move into your second semester, you’ll develop essential skills for delivering quality patient care and managing practice operations. You’ll dive deeper into specialized exams, emergency response, lab techniques and medical coding.
Your program wraps up with a hands-on, supervised clinical experience where you’ll put your skills to work in a real healthcare setting.

Getting Started at Owens
Begin your high-quality education at an affordable price today!
Enrollment is easy—just fill out an online admissions application to get started. We’ll ask you to submit your transcripts for course placement and college credit.
To be admitted to the School of Nursing and Health Professions (SNHP), you must first apply to the College and then (after being admitted to Owens) apply for a Medical Assisting Certificate.
Upon acceptance, schedule a meeting with your admissions advisor to register for classes. Next, attend an on-campus orientation and meet with your student financial services advisor to discuss ways to pay for college.

The Medical Assisting Certificate program on the Toledo campus of Owens Community College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon recommendation of the Medical Assisting Education Review Board (MAERB).
