Owens’ Pre-Dental Hygiene Concentration, AS combines foundational coursework in anatomy, chemistry and health sciences with the communication and patient care skills needed for seamless transfer into the Owens’ Dental Hygiene, AAS program or other bachelor’s degree pathways.

From Science to Smiles
Build the foundation you need to succeed in dental hygiene. In just four semesters, you’ll study the sciences, healthcare and professional skills and explore electives that reflect your personal interests.
Dive into the fundamentals of human biology with anatomy and physiology and learn the language of healthcare through medical terminology and health science courses. Alongside this, you’ll explore psychology, communication and critical thinking—essential skills for patient care and professional success.
During your second semester, you’ll deepen your understanding of anatomy and physiology while moving on to life span psychology and a math elective. You’ll learn how to connect with patients and colleagues and better understand people through courses in human communication and sociology.
In the third semester, you’ll advance your scientific knowledge with microbiology and immunology and gain hands-on experience through Certified Nurse Aide Training. Courses in ethics, composition, and general arts and sciences ensure you become a well-rounded healthcare professional.
Your fourth semester offers flexibility with five elective courses, allowing you to explore personal interests, strengthen career-relevant skills or prepare for transfer to a dental hygiene or other bachelor’s degree program.
