From LPN to RN: Your Next Step
Begin your journey from LPN to RN with a comprehensive foundation in science, communication, and patient care. Your first semester focuses on understanding the human body with coursework in psychology, composition, healthcare careers, medical terminology and anatomy and physiology.
Deepen this knowledge in your second semester with advanced anatomy and physiology, lifespan psychology and mathematics courses designed to strengthen your problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. You’ll also develop the essential interpersonal skills that nurses use daily with patients, families and healthcare teams through a communication or public speaking course.
Your third semester expands your expertise with microbiology and immunology, ethics and an additional composition course. You’ll also complete Certified Nurse Aide Training, gaining valuable hands-on clinical experience that bridges the gap between theory and practice.
The final semester offers maximum flexibility, allowing you to select five electives aligned with your interests while completing your associate degree requirements. Whether you choose to strengthen your scientific foundation, explore the humanities or pursue additional healthcare-focused courses, you’ll be customizing your education to ensure a successful transition into a registered nursing program.

In Their Words
“Owens nursing lab staff emphasize skills you will need to know in the field. We practiced the skills so many times that by the time we did them in the hospital, it was just muscle memory.”
