Owens’ EMT-Basic Certificate takes you straight to the front lines of emergency medicine—a hands-on program that transforms you from observer to lifesaver. After completing the program, you’ll earn a diploma and become eligible to take the National Registry exam. Passing the exam qualifies you for state EMT certification.

In just five credits, Owens’ EMT-Basic program equips you with the skills and knowledge to serve as a certified Emergency Medical Technician. Be trained to provide life-saving care, assess patients and respond to emergencies with confidence.
Gain real-world experience in our state-of-the-art Center for Emergency Preparedness. Following national Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, the program covers essential pre-hospital care, including:
- Assess and treat patients: Evaluate illnesses and injuries while delivering effective, timely care
- Respond to medical emergencies: Handle situations such as emergency childbirth, airway obstructions, bleeding, fractures, shock, heart attacks and strokes
- Stabilize and transport patients: Safely move and monitor patients while en route to medical facilities
Career Outcomes
Upon graduation, you’ll be ready to take the licensing exam and, once passed, earn state certification—launching a meaningful career where every call makes a difference. You can begin working as a first responder right away or continue your education with the EMT-Paramedic Certificate to expand your skills and open even more opportunities.

Getting Started at Owens
Begin your high-quality education at an affordable price today!
Enrollment is easy—just fill out an online admissions application to get started. We’ll ask you to submit your transcripts for course placement and college credit.
Upon acceptance, schedule a meeting with your admissions advisor to register for classes. Next, attend an on-campus orientation and meet with your student financial services advisor to discuss ways to pay for college.
