On any journey, the environment you’re in and the support you have can keep you motivated to continue. For Alex Nyers, this year’s Business Technologies Outstanding Graduate, the support he’s received from people at Owens was key to his success.

Nyers, a Clay High School graduate, found his home at Owens thanks to the passion, caring and professional nature of the faculty and staff. “You are more than a number here. Professors care about your growth in education,” he said. The environment at Owens made his time even more successful. “Coming to Owens, there’s no distractions. You can focus on your own growth and education which fosters the perfect environment for an educational institution.”

While at Owens, Nyers was able to work full time due to the college’s flexible course scheduling. “I was able to take classes when it was convenient for me and there was no sacrifice of work or education,” Nyers said. “With Owens, I had the best of both worlds.”

Nyers dreams of a career in marketing in the future. “I love marketing because of the creative and problem-solving skills needed,” he said. He one day would like to get into advertising and hopefully movie promotions.

After graduation, Nyers plans to enroll at the University of Toledo to pursue a degree in marketing.
