While at Owens Community College, students have many opportunities to get involved within their program and the campus. For Alexandra Briehl, the radiography outstanding graduate, she did just that.

Briehl knew from a young age that she wanted to serve others through medicine. “I was always drawn to help others and couldn’t think of a better way to do that than the medical field,” the Anthony Wayne High School graduate said. It was through the encouragement of family and friends that she decided to pursue radiologic technology,

The Monclova native pointed to the affordability and proximity to home as the reasons she chose Owens. Once she arrived on campus, it was her professors and classmates as well as the welcoming atmosphere where she could learn, grow and laugh that helped her realize it truly was the right place for her to succeed.

“After I joined the program, I had many opportunities to volunteer at Owens,” said Briehl. Throughout her time at the College, Briehl volunteered with Health Occupation Students of America and new student orientation for radiography students, helped with Spring Fling and taught and demonstrated radiography equipment to students at Penta High School.

Following graduation, Briehl will work in a cardiac catherization lab as a cardiovascular specialist at a Toledo-area hospital.
