When students enroll at Owens Community College, many know the program they want to pursue. However, their plan does not always go as expected. Aubree Rager, the outstanding graduate in social work, said she pursued other programs at Owens before finding her calling in social work.

The Antwerp Local Schools graduate was drawn to Owens for the dental hygiene program. She then switched to the radiologic technology program.

Through it all, she knew Owens was the right place for her education. “I felt comfortable with where I was and loved the small environment,” Rager said.

At the point, she turned to the resources at Owens to help with her future. “The career coaches and counselors were great help to me when I felt lost in my career choice,” she said. Once the career coaches helped her focus on her strengths in the workforce, she discovered the best career fit for her was in social work.

While at Owens, Rager was a student-employee and worked at the front desk of the Student Health and Activities Center. “Being an employee on campus kept me in the loop of the activities happening on campus and got me involved in ways that I would not have been able to do otherwise,” she said.

After graduation, Rager will attend the University of Toledo to pursue her bachelor’s degree in social work.
