The recommendations we receive from family and friends can hold a lot of weight in our lives. When Brianna Chochard’s sister-in-law boasted about how great the programs are at Owens, she knew she needed to take a tour. After her tour, Chochard, this year’s Sonography outstanding graduate, said everything fell into place.

The California native was interested in ultrasound since high school, but there were no open programs in her native state. She began working in insurance and when she moved to Ohio 4 years ago, she saw the program at Owens and applied.

The inspiration to get into the field was her family and their health issues. “I thought if I could go to school to learn more about the conditions and how imaging helps people, I knew I had to apply,” she said. “I wanted to provide a role model for my son and engage in a profession that helps the community.”

While at Owens, the variety of classes helped Chochard succeed in her educational journey. “I was able to complete all of my pre-requisites and some program classes from home while working full time,” she said. There was also one person in particular who Chochard thanked for her choosing Owens, program director Julie Posey. “The program director was also so warm and welcoming when discussing the options for the program and I felt so comfortable even before being accepted and knew there was nowhere else I wanted to try and complete my education,” Chochard added.

After graduation, Chochard plans to work in Toledo and continue her education in the vascular ultrasound field. “Education is the foundation of life and Owens provides a safe community to help with that!”
