As we lead up to Commencement this Friday, we are honoring our graduates who have gone above and beyond and have been named outstanding graduates. We honor Mikaila Sweeney, the recipient of the Gerald Bazer Award for the Outstanding Arts and Sciences Graduate. Sweeney, a Psychology Concentration student, said her experiences have inspired her to help others through health and wellness.

Sweeney, an Owens Board of Trustees scholarship recipient, said she could not be more grateful for her professors throughout her educational journey at Owens. “They really do care about everyone’s education and are here to help out in any way,” she said. While at Owens, the Penta Career Center graduate was involved in Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.

After graduation, Sweeney plans to stay in her hometown and pursue a bachelor’s degree at the University of Toledo and then go on for her master’s. Her dream is to open a holistic wellness center where she will practice marriage and family therapy. She said she has learned “no matter what life throws at you, never give up on your dreams and accomplishments because the end result is worth it.”
