When you ask students what inspired their program choice, many say “I’ve wanted to do it since I was a kid.” For Mike Leicht, Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Program ThinkBIG Outstanding Graduate, he grew up around the trucking industry with his grandparents. They helped fuel his chosen career passion.

Leicht, a Grant’s Lick, Kentucky native, chose Owens Community College because of its Caterpillar program. Once on campus, he realized how the knowledgeable faculty would help him succeed. “Randy Rubley, Drew Grover and Neal Fogle all made Owens work for me,” he said. “Their expertise on machines and engines has grown my knowledge in the industry.”

In the CAT program, Leicht was encouraged to try out any ideas he had for different projects. “My teachers always encouraged me to learn through trial and error while using the knowledge they taught me,” he said.

After graduation, Leicht will continue his career with Ohio CAT as a technician.
